Aid Rots outside Gaza

Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aid intended for the Gaza Strip is piling up in cities across Egypt’s North Sinai region, despite recent calls from the United Nations to ease aid flow restrictions to the embattled territory in the wake of Operation Cast Lead.

Food, medicine, blankets, infant food and other supplies for Gaza’s 1.5 million people, coming from governments and non-governmental agencies around the world, are being stored in warehouses, parking lots, stadiums and on airport runways across Egypt’s North Sinai governorate.

Israeli authorities open Kerem Shalom and Nahal Oz crossings

According to Raed Fattuh, chair of the Gazan Committee for the Entry of Goods, Israel partially opened the Kerem Shalom crossing to let in 115 truckloads, 11 of them filled with humanitarian aid for the UN and other agencies.

Government decides not to limit entry of food to Gaza

The government decided Sunday not to limit the entry of food product to the Gaza Strip, following criticism voiced by the United States and Europe over Israel’s crossings policy.

According to the new decision, “The Israeli government is instructing the elements engaged in the matter to allow the free transfer of food products to Gaza’s residents from all relevant sources, after ensuring that they are indeed food products – as part of the humanitarian efforts.”

Palestinians in Lebanon: Army soiled Iranian food aid

” ‘Camp residents refuse to eat what the police dogs have soiled,’ several Palestinian factions in northern Lebanon, including the Islamist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad, said in a statement received by AFP.

The shipment was donated by Iran for Palestinian residents of Nahr Al-Bared Refugee Camp in northern Lebanon.”
