Report: Mash’al set to axe politbureau in Damascus in favor of committee of West Bank, Gaza, exiled members

The paper’s sources said Mash’al decided to axe the political bureau, seen by many as the command center for Hamas, in favor of an executive committee made up of 18 leaders, six from abroad, six from Gaza and six from the West Bank. The move would ensure that no one wing of the party would control internal decision making.

Assad: Israel’s new government is against peace

Assad underlined the need for continued resistance, a reference to anti-Israeli militant groups like the Palestinian Hamas, which Damascus supports.

“Resistance is a national and patriotic and moral duty and it is the only option,” he said. “Peace cannot be achieved with an enemy who does not believe in peace without it being imposed on him by resistance.”
