Aid Rots outside Gaza

Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aid intended for the Gaza Strip is piling up in cities across Egypt’s North Sinai region, despite recent calls from the United Nations to ease aid flow restrictions to the embattled territory in the wake of Operation Cast Lead.

Food, medicine, blankets, infant food and other supplies for Gaza’s 1.5 million people, coming from governments and non-governmental agencies around the world, are being stored in warehouses, parking lots, stadiums and on airport runways across Egypt’s North Sinai governorate.

Sinn Fein leader visit Gaza demands siege to be lifted

Adams told reporters that” what happened in Gaza was wrong” he added that” Gazans have the right to leave in harmony and security.” The Irish official also said “Israel must know that Gaza residents have rights”.

Regarding the ongoing siege on the Gaza strip Israeli is imposing since June of 2006, Adams commented” Israel should open all crossings, allow all supplies into Gaza and facilitate the travel of patients and end the siege.”

The Sinn Féin leader, who met Hamas members when he last visited the Middle East in 2006, said he regretted the Israeli government’s refusal to meet him.

“As the leader of a party which was censored and demonised and whose members were killed, I see dialogue between all sides as key to building a successful peace process,” he said.

“So I will meet with all sides and urge all sides to end all armed actions and to engage in meaningful dialogue.

UNRWA threatens to fire Gaza employees with declared Hamas, Fatah loyalties

Following an internal election within UNRWA, the agency’s management has warned it may fire employees who violated the organization’s nonpartisan policy by affiliating with political factions in Gaza – namely Fatah and Hamas.

The warning came as the election for the chairmanship of UNRWA trade union ended Monday. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East is a major source of employment in Gaza.
