Settlers uproot olive groves near Ramallah

Posted in 1 by beyondtheborder on September 5, 2009

Local sources reported that fundamental Israeli settlers of the Neve Yarden illegal settlement outpost, uprooted on Friday olive groves that belong to residents of Al Mghayyir Palestinian village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

The settlers carried their attack out while Israeli soldiers just stood idle and watched them, the sources added.

Several Palestinian residents tried to stop the settlers but the army intercepted them, and barred them from protecting their orchards.

Clashes were reported as a number of Palestinians hurled stones at the army who protected the settlers instead of removing them out of the Palestinian orchards.

Testimony: B’Tselem worker photographs settlers trying to steal sheep and one of them stabs him in the hand, 10 August 2009

I got there quickly. I saw Jaziya Nawaj’ah and her sheep and two settlers. One of the settlers was average height and heavyset, with short hair, a beard, and slightly dark skin. I know him. His name is Dotan and he works for Dalia [Har-Sinai] at the Yair Farm settlement. The other settler was a bit shorter and younger than Dotan, had short hair and was fair-skinned. I know him too. His name is Shalom, and he is also from Yair Farm. The settlers tried to lead the sheep toward the settlement, and Jaziya shouted and tried to lead her sheep back toward the village.

Right-wing settlers absent as Palestinians brace for Al-Aqsa invasion

Posted in Jerusalem by beyondtheborder on April 16, 2009

Hundreds of Palestinians congregated at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in an effort to stave off an anticipated invasion of the area by right-wing Israeli religious groups Thursday afternoon.

The messianic Jewish movement Chabad called on its followers to go to Al-Aqsa to “conquer and Judaize the holiest place on earth, which is being desecrated in such a disgraceful and shameful way.” Several religious groups organized a march to the holy compound scheduled for Thursday. None of the groups, however, showed up at the mosque for their scheduled march.

Access to the compound, which houses the Al-Aqsa mosque, was restricted to Muslims with Israeli IDs, aged at least 50 for men and of any age for women.

The violence erupted when a group of settler youths began throwing stones at Palestinians on the outskirts of the village of Safa. The settlers had left a prayer service held on a nearby hilltop in memory of Shlomo Nativ, 16, who was killed by a axe-wielding Palestinian on Thursday.

The settlement is also the origin of a militia called the Bat Ayin Underground. The father of the 7-year-old victim of last week’s attack is Ofer Gamliel, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence for attempting to bomb a Palestinian girls’ school in Jerusalem in 2002. Two other men from the settlement were also jailed for the attempted attack.

15 residents were treated for gas inhalation as Israeli soldiers also attacked the residents instead of removing the settlers who initiated the attack.

Local sources reported that the settlers also stole sheep belonging to the residents of Safa.

Local mosques in Beit Ummar and Surif called on the residents to aid their brother in Safa, and hundreds of Palestinians rushed to the area.

Only then soldiers intervened to stop the settlers and ordered them to return to their illegal outposts.
